We seek pleasure outside, but it actually comes from within.
Vedic philosophy would say that our pursuit of pleasure, year after year, lifetime after lifetime, is leading us toward experiencing more and more ananda. Long term, what happens to us when we experience more and more ananda? We can look to the research on Vedic meditation, which is a practical aspect of Vedic philosophy, to see what happens because Vedic meditation is a technique that leads to direct and repeated experiences of sat-chit-ananda. Research on meditation has shown that experiencing sat-chit-ananda repeatedly results in progress toward what Vedic philosophy calls enlightenment.
